Fan translates Campaign site into Russian!

December 16th, 2010

A dedicated Shining fan in Russia, SFCer Chaiman, has translated almost all of the SF:SOS site into Russian:

All that remains to be translated is the news. Wonderful job, Chaiman – I hope we reach some more Russian fans this way!

I’ll be adding a link to the Russian site from the main campaign site ASAP :)

Another magazine advert, more followers & a letter arrives!

December 14th, 2010

Today the I’ve received the first postal letter here at SF:SOS Campaign HQ! Presented beautifully and with a very novel Shining introduction, I’m sure this one will catch Camelot’s eye!

Have now also received 2 signatures for the Shining 20th Birthday card. Nice to be making a start :)

Thanks to a generous donation also received today, I am now in the progress of booking an advert in January’s gamesTM magazine, which is great news as this mag has more international reach than Retro Gamer. So, let’s hope for an influx of visitors in January! It would be great if some more of you could make videos & send some letters in – we need to impress the potential new supporters brought in by the magazine adverts afterall!

Have also gained a few new followers on Twitter today after my daily outreach. Several of the new followers are Japanese fans, and it’s really fantastic to see the message is reaching our fellow fans in the East at last. Sugoi!

Campaign to feature in January’s Retro Gamer Magazine

December 9th, 2010

Well, we did it :) We raised enough money and have booked, paid & submitted artwork for our advert in Retro Gamer’s January issue!

The magazine goes on sale on January 8th in the UK (and at selected importers elsewhere in the world) so keep your eyes peeled for our advert! Let’s hope it brings in some more supporters.

Looks like we may also be able to get into gamesTM magazine as I’ve had a promise of another donation which should bring fundage just high enough for the second advert. If we go ahead with this we have a chance to reach even more fans as gamesTM has subscribers around the world.

So, why did we go with Retro Gamer first? Because gamesTM already mentioned the campaign in its retro section, so in a way we have already reached its audience – but it would be great to cement the campaign in the minds of its readers with a nice quarter page advert!

Will be sure to post a pic of how the advert comes out in January. I’ll be grabbing an extra copy of the mag to send off in the campaign bundle to Camelot too.

Thanks to everyone whose donations made this possible!

Ashley from gamesTM magazine submits a vid!

December 6th, 2010

At the weekend I received another Campaign video, this one from Ashley at gamesTM magazine!

Ashley is the wonderful soul who kindly included a mention of the campaign in the latest issue of the magazine:

gamesTM magazine issue 103 features the SF:SOS Campaign!

In other news, I have been prepping the file for the magazine advert which we hope to place in the January issue of Retro Gamer magazine. My printer is playing up unfortunately so it would be great if a few peeps could check that the file is printing correctly! The file can be found in this topic at the SF:SOS forum. I am hoping that there may be some way some way we can also have a small advert in gamesTM although we have not yet raised enough money. We’re about UK£100 shy of having a quarter page ad in both magazines, but perhaps an eighth of a page in gamesTM could be considered. The deadline for getting the artwork to gamesTM is in 10 days, so there’s still hope of raising enough money for that. At least we have enough for Retro Gamer, the deadline for which is in just a couple of days time!

Magazine advertising – decisions urgently needed!

December 4th, 2010

As we have now raised enough to run a magazine advert, please head over to the Shining Force: SOS forum to vote on which magazine, issue & ad we should choose!

In other news, I’ll be posting a scan of the gamesTM SOS feature in the next few days :)

So far the video campaign is going better than the letter writing, and I do hope this is just because we’re very close to Christmas and therefore all quite busy. I’ve had a few promises of letters and in fact have received a signature for the Shining birthday card which is promising at least 😉 Please if you find yourself bored over the holiday season, take a few minutes to write and post a letter for the campaign!

The campaign reaches Russia – new video added!

November 29th, 2010

Big thanks to DarkSol83 from for his great campaign video!

gamesTM issue 103 features the campaign!

November 26th, 2010

Issue 103 of gamesTM magazine is now out in the UK and has a mention of the SOS Campaign in its retro section – yay! If you’re reading this as a result of seeing the mention in the magazine then thank you for taking the time to visit. Hope you’ll have a good read of the site and will take the time to support the campaign :)

There’s also a double page spread on the following pages of the magazine about Shining Force II’s Kraken boss.

Hopefully we’ll be able to afford a campaign advert in the magazine (or retrogamer) soon. Info on how to donate to the cause is in the previous news posting!

Magazine advert – fundraising!

November 21st, 2010

Shining Force: SOS Campaign Magazine AdvertWell, we have an almost final draft for the quarter-page size Shining Force: SOS magazine advert, as you can see here (click on the thumbnail to see it in full). Now, we need to start raising money to actually get it in print. I received a donation in the post yesterday which has got the ball rolling and now of course we need to raise the rest.

We have several options on the magazine advertising front, depending on the money we raise. As much as I would like to be able to advertise in a USA publication, the prices I’ve been quoted for those are absolutely astronimical (we’re talking in the tens of thousands)  and are therefore unfortunately a no-go. So, the options we are left with at present (unless anyone wants to make alternative suggestions) are:

  • retro gamer or gamesTM in the UK, which is also available in some areas of Europe (I should imagine we can afford at least one of these, but we do get a discount if we go for both)
  • Edge magazine which sells in around 65 countries. This one is significantly more expensive and I’m not allowed to disclose the price I have been quoted – but if we manage to afford it, they may well also print a brief article about the campaign.
  • If we don’t raise enough for a magazine ad, we can get some web advertising on the Edge site at a rate of UK£17.00 (US$27.00) per 1,000 banner views. This is of course not the preferred option as we can’t very well show it to Camelot – unlike a printed advert.

Any further suggestions about possible magazines are very welcome. I’d love to get something in Famitsu, but have no way to discuss it with them. If any Japanese campaign supporters are reading this and are willing to liaise with Famitsu on our behalf it would be much appreciated. I’m sure we can get the advert translated if we are able to afford an advert in Famitsu.

So, if you’d like to help raise funds for the Campaign’s magazine advert, please use the PayPal form below (even if you don’t have a PayPal account you can donate with your credit or debit card via PayPal!).

Ramin loves Shining Force – so much!

New video added today :)

Also, having received a donation towards magazine advertising, I shall be starting a proper fundraising drive for the mag advert very soon!

Clever new Campaign video added!

November 16th, 2010

SFCer Stordarth has cunningly hacked himself into Shining Force II for his (slightly unconventional!) campaign video. Very clever indeed!
